San Onofre State Beach Campground at The Bluffs

Our own backyard in So Cal is really lovely!

We stayed here 4 nights after our trip to Palm Springs and before Panama.  I had run through here on one of our Ragnar Relays one year.  The campground is adjacent to the water at the very northern edge of Camp Pendelton.  As it turns out, our particular spot was exactly between the water and the truck weighing and inspection station.  So, bright and early at 6:00 AM, we could hear over a loud speaker instructions to the truckers on pulling onto the scales.  Not long after that, the trains start whizzing by.  Obviously, this was not the most serene campground.  It was flat and we did get out our bikes on two days.  This was my first time in the saddle for basically a couple of years, so it was nice to just ride within the campground.

During this stay, we went in to San Clemente and visited Lost Winds Brewing Company where we met the owner, Tim Thralls. Lost Winds is relatively new but getting off to an early success. They often bring in food trucks and welcome the local cycling community to replenish their lost fluids after a long ride. The unique thing about this brewery is that the tasting room is really IN the brewery. I neglected to get a proper photo, but the vibe was really cool.

This was also the week before our trip to Panama, so I had a dentist appointment and my Real Estate licensee exam to attend.  I passed the exam and am now affiliated for referrals only with Willis Allen in Coronado.  This gives me an opportunity to make a little money this year and to have a full time job as a realtor when I get home in 2018!
