Sally

Meet Sally

Since Betty wasn’t going to drive herself, we needed a tow vehicle.  We developed a concept where I would purchase the tow vehicle/future realtor vehicle.  Jeff would contribute the trade in of his BMW and we would share in the expenses for Sally while we are traveling for the year.  So, we needed something multi-purpose and cool enough to hang with Betty.

I didn’t want an SUV on a truck platform like all the American brands because I didn’t see a little old lady in Coronado climbing into a truck to go look at multi-million dollar properties.  So, I needed class and power.  BMW doesn’t even make anything that would work.  My choices were the Land Rover or Porsche Cayenne.

We went with the 2013 Porsche and I really love her!  She was a first for me in many ways.  I’ve never owned an automatic transmission and never paid more than $20k for a vehicle.  Sally is the biggest vehicle I have ever owned, even though for an SUV she is not that big.  Basically, I have been a sports car type driver my entire life, so now I am suddenly feeling all grown up.  We got a diesel which was a very good choice.  Sally has great torque and can handle Betty, plus she is relatively economical.  Of course, she is also my first Porsche!

Jeff is a fan of Car Max and I am too now.  He loaded up the website with his choice of vehicle and when one got turned in anywhere in the country, he got a notice.  Our first hit came from Houston, but it got snatched up before we pulled the trigger.  That was a blessing since it had this awful orange-y interior.  I have no idea who at Porsche thinks that is a good color?  However, the good news is that this allowed Jeff to further define the criteria for a diesel and within a month or so, a nice Silver diesel with black interior popped up in Chicago.  We pounced on it.

Why Sally?  Well, have you watched the Cars movies?  Sally is the love interest of Lightning McQueen and she is a Porsche, or course!
